On April 21, at the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Nuclear Technology Application Industry Development Conference in Beijing, the 2025 Science and Technology Awards of the China Isotope and Radiation Association (CIRA) were announced. The project "Key Technologies and Applications of Distributed Source Static CT," jointly submitted by Tsinghua University, Nuctech, and its subsidiary NuRaytech Electronics, received the CIRA Special Award for Technological Invention.
This project breaks through the limitations of traditional slip-ring CT in scanning speed and channel size. Based on carbon nanotube (CNT) "cold cathode" technology, it has successfully developed the world’s first static CT imaging system using a distributed X‑ray source. The core component integrates over 100 independently controllable X‑ray foci in a single vacuum cavity, offering advantages such as no warm‑up time, instantaneous response, and low power consumption—and has entered mass production. The system acquires complete projection data without mechanical rotation, fundamentally eliminating motion blur and significantly improving scanning speed, image quality, reliability, and channel size.
The achievements have been recognized as one of the "Top Ten Events in Nuclear Technology Applications in Recent Years" by the China Atomic Energy Authority, listed on the "Innovation China" pioneering technology roster, and awarded a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. The static CT system has been deployed at major national logistics and transportation hubs including Hainan Free Trade Port, Hong Kong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. It has also been successfully introduced to key overseas transportation nodes, with pioneering applications in aerospace, scientific research, and other fields.
