With just two days left until the closing of the "Earth's Vitality Science Exhibition" for the 2025 International Panda Day, the event at Beijing Wukesong Wanda Plaza continues to draw attention. Organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and supported by Nuctech, One Planet Foundation, and Wanda Commercial Management Group, the exhibition showcases two themed zones: "Protecting Earth's Vitality" and "Empowering Nature Conservation with Technology." Through digital art, sculptures, and interactive installations, visitors can experience the beauty of nature and witness how technology serves as a powerful tool in safeguarding ecosystems.
In the "Empowering Nature Conservation with Technology" zone, Nuctech’s intelligent inspection solutions stand out. As wildlife trafficking remains a global challenge, customs and border control agencies serve as the first line of defense. Traditional manual inspections often face inefficiencies and identification difficulties, but the integration of Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a breakthrough.
As a leader in this field, Nuctech has delivered remarkable results. For instance, its "Smart Image Recognition" system can accurately identify ivory products as small as 2 cm in diameter. Since its implementation, customs authorities have intercepted hundreds of ivory smuggling cases annually. Notable seizures include 37 ivory items by Hefei Customs in March 2024 and 472 grams of ivory products at Beijing Daxing International Airport in February 2025.
With the rise of cross-border e-commerce and the exotic pet trend, risks of invasive species entering borders have intensified. Nuctech’s technology has proven instrumental in addressing these challenges. In April 2025, Shijiazhuang Airport Customs intercepted 49 live sword-tailed newts in inbound mail, while in May, Fuzhou Changle Airport Customs seized 430 beetles of 57 species, and Shenzhen Postal Customs intercepted 3,812 live ants. These achievements underscore how technology strengthens national biosecurity and prevents the spread of invasive species.
The message of "using technology to protect ecosystems" conveyed by this exhibition will not fade as the event concludes. As technology continues to empower ecological conservation and more people recognize that "protecting endangered species means protecting humanity," our planet will ultimately enjoy a more vibrant and sustainable future.
