A Senior Nuclear Security Officer at the IAEA Visits Nuctech as Nuctech Looks to Deepen Cooperation on the Application of Nuclear Technology
Mr. Thierry Pelletier, a senior officer from the Division of Nuclear Security, IAEA, visited Nuctech headquarters at the invitation of the State Nuclear Security Technology Center of China on the afternoon of July 18, 2023. The guests were welcomed and accompanied by Yulan LI, Chief Engineer of Nuctech’s Joint Research Institute and Chief Engineer of Nuctech’s Intelligent Product Division, on the tour.
During the tour at Nuctech’s exhibition hall, Li HUANG, Head of Nuctech’s International Cooperation Department, introduced Mr. Pelletier to the extensive application of civil nuclear technologies independently developed by Nuctech in security inspections for customs, civil aviation, major events and rail transit, among other use cases, as well as Nuctech’s innovative exploration in ore sorting and non-destructive testing.
At a seminar, Yulan LI and the technical team introduced Nuctech’s advanced technologies in nuclear radiation monitoring and radiation detection, high purity germanium (HPGe) radiation detectors, the application and development status of core HPGe technologies, and the wide application of Nuctech products in homeland security and environmental protection in China.
Experts from Nuctech and the IAEA had in-depth discussions later on products, technology, technology application trend, overseas projects, and Nuctech’s exploration in building and integrating platform-based nuclear radiation monitoring capabilities.
Mr. Pelletier lauded Nuctech’s practices and exploration in applying nuclear technology to security inspection and other use cases, and expressed his gratitude to Nuctech for donating backpack-based radiation detectors during the IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi’s visit to China. Mr. Pelletier emphasized that the donation was a strong support for the IAEA’s new laboratory in Dusseldorf. Mr. Pelletier expressed his hope to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the IAEA and Nuctech for joint development.
