High-tech X-ray scanners Will Enhance the Customs Enforcement Competence[2006-04-17]

A contract was signed on April 11, 2006 between Ministry of finance and Nuctech Company limited (Nuctech), a Chinese hi-tech company for two sets of THSCAN X-ray container/vehicle inspection system.

H.E., Mr. Jihad Azour, minister of Finance and Mr. Wang Weidong, the Vice President of Nuctech signed the contract in the office of Ministry of Finance.

The system is used for non-intrusively inspect containers and vehicles for the purpose of anti-smuggling and counter terrorism. The introduced equipment, THSCAN X-ray container/vehicle inspection system, is developed and manufactured by Nuctech, a leading hi-tech company in China as well as in its field in the range of the world. With the reference proven by its clients in more than thirty countries all over the world, the system enjoys the reputation of highly advanced technology and reliable quality.

According to the contract, the two equipment will be deployed in Lebanon in six months later. Compared with the manual inspection method which is performed currently, the new inspection measure with help of the X-ray scanners is believed more efficient and accurate, will effectively decrease the smuggling and hot goods importing by containers and vehicles, ease the terrorism threaten to the country consequently. In order to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the system, some officials of Lebanese customs will be trained in China by Nuctech later.

H.E, Madam Liu Xianghua, the Chinese ambassador in Lebanon, and Madam Yang Peipei, commercial conselor of Chinese embassy and the Director General of the Lebanese Customs, Mr. Ghanem attended the signing ceremony.
