The National Engineering Laboratory for Dangerous Articles and Explosives Detection Technologies Inaugurated

The National Engineering Laboratory for Dangerous Articles and Explosives Detection Technologies launched in Tsinghua University on 11st, January, 2017. Xue Qikun the vice president of Tsinghua University, Chen Jinghua the relevant leader of the Ministry of Public Security jointly inaugurated the laboratory and the first working conference of the lab was held the same day.

 

The construction plan of the lab was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in 2016. Organized by the Ministry of Education and supervised by the Ministry of Public Security, the lab was co-constructed by Tsinghua University and Nuctech. Around the central task of fast and accurate detection of hazardous and explosive substances, the lab would build an applied research platform, and conduct the R&D and engineering work of technologies and systems including MMW/Terahertz radiation scanning, risk control based on biometric recognition, and fast scanning of important places to support the technical progress and industry development of hazardous and explosive substances detection.

 

The lab would operate under the regulation of an 8-persons council lead by Xue Qikun the vice president of Tsinghua University. The 17-persons technology committee would be lead by Kang Kejun the Changjiang Scholar and Distinguished Professor of Tsinghua University, and Chen Zhiqiang the holder of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund and the president of Nuctech would be the director of the lab. During the conference, Director Chen Zhiqiang made a report on the progress of first year’s work of the lab, and Wang Shengjin and Zheng Xiaoping made a report on the progress of the R&D on Terahertz and biometric recognition.
